How did it get there?

"Let me guess. It runs just fine, but with all the hype, there's no way you could avoid being disappointed?"
"Actually, no. I take great pains to avoid any hype for anything I might buy, just to keep safe from post-hype letdown. This is the problem," he said, gesturing for me to follow.
He led me into the kitchen where he kept the Segway. It was laying on top of a very sturdy kitchen table, next to a can of cola, a misshapen apple, and some stale cereal.
"It's part of this woefully inadequate breakfast!"
