I was sitting in a burrito place having lunch yesterday, and some newspaper guys walked in and talked to the owner.

"Congratulations!" they said, "We conducted a citywide survey looking for the best burrito in San Francisco. Based on critical reviews, reader responses, blind polls and double-blind taste tests, your restaurant was exactly average! In fact, based on our scoring method, your restaurant's score was exactly the median, the arithmetic mean and the geometric mean. Your burritos are completely and anomalously average!"

The owner of the restaurant was nonplussed, both in the incorrect sense of the word ("slightly displeased") and the correct sense of the word ("so surprised that he had no idea how to respond.")

I finished my burrito -- it was okay but nothing great, as promised -- and left before I could tell what happened next.
