Okay, those Blue Halls of Mystery creep me out. They're beautiful, of course, don't get me wrong. The sky blue marble pillars, the painted domes, the swans on the lake, the carvings and musical wind-stones - the actual structures and settings are amazing.

The inscriptions on the pillars are kind of creepy. For those of you who haven't been there, each pillar asks whether something will still be around in 100 years: Portugal, the Hawaiian penny-ear law ), rock and roll, and so on.

It doesn't ask whether they should be around in 100 years, but whether they will.

I don't know who updates those pillars.

But that's not what creeps me out, really. What creeps me out about that place is the sour, vaguely-cherry-like taste of the water from the water fountains.

I always shudder nervously when I think about it. What does that cherry taste mean?
