"Because I said that I'm a good person, deep down?" I asked her, annoyed. My dinner date was looking away, dreadully embarassed.
"Yes. Unfortunately, there is not authentic core to humanity. Everyone's a jumbled weird mess of contradictions inside. Bank robbers are friendly people most of the time, and the nicest people in the world sometimes become irrationally furious. Even though you experience the whole range on the inside, it's what's on the outside that matters. The true self is in your behavior, not in your thoughts."
"So you're kicking me out?" I whined.
Don't go to that restaurant! They've got the tastiest giant squid out there, with enormous portions, but the management gets really weird about authenticity.
