Aug. 14th, 2005 10:47 pmI saw a raccoon today, stashing baby raccoons in a sewer grate. It's amazing how forest animals seem to treat cities as very weird rocky grey forests. Humans kind of wiped out all the plains, animals, but forest animals adapted quickly.
This leads me to conclude that humans are, in some way, making cities into some kind of updated ur-forest.
I asked the raccoon what she thought. She sighed and said, "I think you're terminally uncool. I didn't adapt to the city because it's a forest. I adapted to the city because I'm hip and cosmopolitan."
"Oh my goodness!" I exclaimed, "A hip raccoon!"
